Text Box: Assertive Communication

Introduction

Our communication is only as good as the response that we

get and sometimes an inappropriate response can be linked

to the way we have chosen to react in a given situation.

Whilst our reaction may be appropriate and valid there are

often times when the beliefs and values we hold act as a

barrier to effective open communication.  The result can be

that we fail to deal with issues or express our honest views

and opinions, leaving problems unresolved and ultimately

affecting individual and team effectiveness at work.

During this workshop essential skills and abilities will be developed and practised and individuals will gain an insight into the personal values which restrict their ability to behave assertively in certain situations or with particular individuals.

Methods of Working

The workshop will be highly participative dealing with real and relevant issues.  Group and individual working will be supplemented by tutor input, interactive exercises and time to reflect on personal styles.  Continuous supportive feedback will be an integral element of the programme.

Who should attend

Anyone who wants to improve their ability to act confidently and improve the amount of control they feel they have in work situations.

This workshop can be run for mixed groups, team leaders or those newly appointed to a leadership role.
